Recommendations for Registration
All new students must register for MACP50000 Professional Orientation to Mental health Counseling their first term. Beyond that, there is a lot of flexibility as to what students can enroll in, but it is recommended that they take the following prerequisites in NO particular order:
MACP50010 Psychopathology: Diagnostic and Treatment Planning
MACP50060 Helping Relationships: Basic Counseling Skills
MACP50080 Group Work: Clinical Theory and Practice
MACP51010 Counseling Theories
MACP51190 Professional Counseling Ethics
New students may also take other core courses if they like, such as:
MACP50020 Human Growth & Development
MACP50030 Social and Cultural Diversity in Counseling
MACP50070 Career and Lifestyle Development: Challenges of Adulthood
New students may also take a counseling elective course, or if a post-graduate certificate/concentration area (Adventure-based Psychotherapy, Ecotherapy, or Expressive Art Therapy) is also being pursued, it is strongly encouraged that students consider taking the corresponding Foundations course their first term to be connected to their passion from the beginning of their educational journey.
Important Note: All new students will be assigned a Faculty Advisor prior to New Student Orientation. During the first term, students are required to meet their Faculty Advisor to complete their Degree Plan to map out each subsequent semester until graduation.
